Apple to replace the “Plus” iPhone Model With an “Air” Model in iPhone 17 lineup: Apple has been facing problems finding the fourth iPhone model that fits in among buyers.
There was a mini, a smaller vanilla iPhone. After a two-year run, Apple replaced it with a higher model, the Plus.
It seems the Plus variant also could not move sales numbers significantly.
Now, Apple is going with a fourth model, which Mark Gurman of Bloomberg suggests will come next year.

The question remains: what new approach could Apple try after exploring both ‘mini’ and ‘Plus’ variants? Well, Gurman suggests that the next up could be a “far thinner design.”
Gurman, in his latest Power On newsletter for Bloomberg, writes that Apple is planning to introduce an ultra-thin “Air” iPhone model would sit between the standard iPhone 17 and the higher-end iPhone 17 Pro, replacing the current Plus variant.
The said iPhone 17 Air would have a slimmer design compared to other models, reminiscent of the original MacBook Air.

With the Air, Apple will also change up its marketing strategy a little, trying to make it more lucrative for buyers, which apparently the mini and Plus were not enough to achieve.
Gurman suggests that Apple’s marketing strategy for this device might be: “If you want something snazzier than a standard iPhone — but don’t really need the performance, screen size, or cameras of a Pro model- you can get something that looks much cooler while still having the specifications of a regular iphone.

This new Air model and the fourth-generation iPhone SE, which also expected in early 2025, could help Apple achieve meaningful growth in iPhone sales, writes Gurman. The iPhone SE is anticipated to adopt a design similar to the iPhone 14, featuring a full-screen OLED display and support for Appl’e upcoming AI features.
