“Chennai Super Kings continue to maintain that MS Dhoni’s participation in the upcoming season is still not final, and key officials from the franchise will meet with him before making a decision. Dhoni is expected to meet with CSK officials in mid-October in Mumbai, where he will likely convey his final decision,” the report said.

After CSK’s IPL 2024 campaign concluded, Dhoni, who had guided CSK to five IPL titles in the previous 17 years, was anticipated to end his IPL career. However, he chose not to do so, and since then, there have been doubts about his involvement in the IPL 2025.

Playing in ten finals, CSK has been led by him. Ruturaj Gaikwad, a 27-year-old right-handed top-order batsman, took over as captain after he resigned his position prior to the IPL 2024 season, although the 27-year-old was unable to assist in the team’s successful IPL 2023 championship defense.

The BCCI’s announcement under the new uncapped player rule for IPL 2024 that players such as Dhoni, who have not played international cricket for more than five years, can be classed as ‘uncapped’ and kept for a fee of Rs 4 crore, increased Dhoni’s prospects of participating in the IPL.

The former Indian captain, who has also won three ICC titles, has yet to announce his participation in the IPL 2025, despite the belief of many fans and previous greats of the game that the uncapped player rule was reinstated to ensure Dhoni’s participation.
